Flexible approach to education makes Career High Schools the choice of many

Six schools in Chinook’s Edge offer a flexible approach to education for high school students. Each Career High School has two experienced teachers on staff who specialize in Math/Science and Social/English.

Career High students write the same provincial exams and obtain the same diploma as students in traditional schools. The schools place an emphasis on career development and also provide training for specific jobs, including first aid, career transition courses, Registered Apprenticeship Program and Green Certificate. All Chinook’s Edge Career High Schools have proven to be successful, student-centered programs that achieve very good results. This effective and flexible approach to education supports all youth in our communities so they can achieve their full potential.

Career High Schools are located in Red Deer, Sylvan Lake, Innisfail, Olds, and Didsbury. Similar programming is offered at the Sundre Learning Centre.

Alberta High School Rodeo Queen set to graduate from Didsbury Career High
May 18, 2011

Katy Lucas has been able to keep up with her grade 12 studies while fulfilling her busy obligations as Alberta High School Rodeo Queen, thanks to the lexibility and support offered through Didsbury Career High School.

“I’ve always been a strong student with good marks, but my dedication to rodeo is equally important to me,” said Katy, who was crowned Rodeo Queen last June. “I’ve been out of regular school since grade 8, so that I could also devote my time to rodeo. At first I attempted to keep up through some virtual schools, but I fell behind in my classes. I wish I had started at Didsbury Career High earlier, because it has been such a great experience for me. I have really enjoyed school this year, and I’m excited and proud to be graduating next month.”  (more)

I knew he must have fallen in front of the car,” said Schmidt. “I was certain the driver hadn’t noticed him, so I quickly...  (more)
