Central Office Leadership Team (COLT)

Kurt Sacher
Superintendent of Schools
ksacher@chinooksedge.ab.ca

Since I arrived to Chinook's Edge last June, it has been a true pleasure to visit our schools and get to know our students, staff and families. I have been an educator in Alberta and B.C. for the past 24 years, in the roles of teacher, assistant principal, principal, Assistant Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent. What I see throughout Chinook's Edge - the exceptional learning taking place in our classrooms, the opportunities opening up for our students, and the way in which our staff and families interact - is the reason I went into education.

Associate Superintendent, Student Services

I am very excited about joining Chinook’s Edge. I have heard exceptional reports about this division’s highly skilled staff and supportive parents and communities. Chinook’s Edge has a long standing reputation of being proactive, creative, and collaborative in their efforts to ensure student success. I have been an educator in Saskatchewan and Alberta for 24 years, in the role of teacher, school counselor, school-based administrator, Director of Student Services, and Assistant Superintendent of Student Services. I am very excited to meet the students, staff, and families of Chinook’s Edge and it will truly be an honour and a privilege to join this "top notch" organization.

I am honoured to have the opportunity to serve as the new Associate Superintendent of Learning Services with Chinook’s Edge. I have been proud to be a part of Chinook’s Edge as a teacher and administrator over the last 20 years, and I have watched it grow into a well-respected, progressive school division with dedicated staff who make a difference for students each day.

Chinook’s Edge School Division is my home. I grew up on a family farm 30 minutes east of Innisfail and have been part of Chinook’s Edge since its inception. I have served as a teacher and leader in schools in Innisfail, Sundre, and Olds. The 21st century has brought with it amazing technology advancements, and we are living, working and learning in exciting times. Despite these advancements, I believe that it is more important than ever to remember what lies at the heart of all good families, classrooms, schools, and communities – positive relationships. I consider myself both lucky and fortunate to be part of a school division where relationships serve as foundations for effective learning and success for all our children.

Shawn Russell
Associate Superintendent, People Services
srussell@chinooksedge.ab.ca

I have been a part of Chinook’s Edge since 2001, and I have enjoyed working with incredible school and Division staff. The relationships and desire of our staff to continually improve, while keeping our students at the centre of their efforts, is a pleasure to be associated with. I have been involved in education in the Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia and Alberta for the past 19 years, in various school and Division roles. Chinook’s Edge is a wonderful place to work and I am proud that my own children attend schools within the Division.

Allan Tarnoczi
Associate Superintendent, Corporate Services
atarnoczi@chinooksedge.ab.ca

Over the past 30 years, as a teacher and an educational leader, I have had the pleasure of working with children of all ages, their parents and leaders in the communities that make up Chinook’s Edge. Throughout the district, in all of these communities, I have found a steadfast commitment to see children succeed. I am proud to be part of a division that shares a commitment to put students first.

Susan Roy
Treasurer
sroy@chinooksedge.ab.ca

I take my role of managing the financial affairs of the division very seriously. I came to the division from Red Deer County, when Chinook’s Edge was formed in 1995. Prior to that I had spent five years in public practice and working on my CGA designation. Throughout my years in Chinook’s Edge, I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the staff who make such a difference for students. In my role I have developed principles around managing public funds. I simply ask myself: Is this the best value for our money? Are we spending these funds for the purposes for which they were received? Is this in the best interest of the students, staff, and tax payers? I’m proud to say that Chinook’s Edge has the right answers!

Communications Officer

I enjoy people’s stories – both reading them and writing them! That’s why I went into journalism and, subsequently, public relations. The stories of our students, staff and school communities in Chinook’s Edge have been some of my favourite, and I am honoured to be the person sharing the great news from this school division.

Darrel Dyvig
Director, Facility Services
ddyvig@chinooksedge.ab.ca

I have been fortunate to have been with Chinook’s Edge for the past year and a half, and prior to this enjoyed working on various projects in both Western Canada and Mexico. What I really appreciate about working at Chinook’s Edge is the pride and dedication our staff feel towards their work – in all areas of this division. I value the contributions these individuals are making to both our children and community. I find being able to be a part of this is a very rewarding experience.

Ted Harvey
Director, Technology Services
tharvey@chinooksedge.ab.ca

When I decided to computerize our feed mill in the early 1990s, I was led to a career in technology. The Internet was just being launched and I saw a great business opportunity, so I started an Internet company. Six years ago, I turned my management and technology background towards a role with Chinook’s Edge, and I love the challenge, the excitement and the dynamic projects we are involved with. As Director of Technology I am fortunate to collaborate with a great team of people throughout our jurisdiction.

Lee Tipman
Division Principal
ltipman@chinooksedge.ab.ca

This is my third year as Division Principal for Chinook’s Edge and this role gives me the privilege of assisting, supporting and evaluating all of the teachers who are new to our division - and I love what I do! I have the opportunity to work very closely with our staff both at a Central Office level and within all schools throughout the division, which gives me remarkable insight into what a truly wonderful school division we work in. There is absolutely no doubt that our schools, our teachers, our support staff and our administrators are committed to and strive to live by our motto “Where Students Come First”.

Bruce Wagner
Director, Transportation
bwagner@chinooksedge.ab.ca

I began as a teacher in Chinook’s Edge in 1980, and eventually retired as a school principal in January of 2007. Retirement didn’t last long, though, as I soon became the Director of Transportation. During a 30 year career of working in schools, I just took for granted the daily arrival and departure of school buses. After assuming my new responsibilities in transportation, I gained an appreciation of the work that bus drivers do on a daily basis and their dedication to transporting Chinook’s Edge students safely several million kilometers every year.
