English as a Second Language

Chinook’s Edge School Division welcomes students who come from many countries. These varied cultural and backgrounds add a rich dimension to our school division and to our schools. Students learning English will be supported at their community school through a range of programming options depending on English language proficiency and previous educational experiences.

Parents are encouraged to discuss programming options with their child’s teacher or with the school administration.

Alberta Education ESL Benchmarks

In Chinook's Edge School Division, English language proficiency is assessed at least twice annually by using the Alberta ESL Proficiency Benchmarks.  Please see the Resources section for further information about the Benchmarks including tracking sheets.
