Urban Transportation for the 2018/19 School Year

We will soon be taking registration forms for eligible student riders. Eligible riders should be receiving forms at the school by May 17th. Forms will be available on the website after that. Any applicable fees must be paid before forms are processed. Non-eligible riders will also be placed on buses but, please be aware that they may be bumped from a seat on a bus thoughout the school year if there is a need to create space for eligible riders. If a non-eligible rider is bumped, a prorated refund of the transportation fee will be provided.

At this point, we are not yet able to accept E-transfers or Debit Credit Cards for payments. We can accept cash, cheques, debit cards, and credit cards. For eligible students only, there is also an option for Student Quick Pay On-line Fee Payments.

First Rider Program

Welcome to Kindergarten and your child's first time riding the school bus! Together we can help make your child's "first rider" experience a fun and safe one!

One of the ways we do that at Chinook's Edge is through the First Rider Program. This program is a School Bus Safety program that introduces young children and their parents to school buses and school bus safety. You'll watch a video of Winnie the Pooh and his friends on an exciting adventure of riding the school bus for the first time, all the while learning safety tips that teach them about bus safety. Afterward, you and your child will board an actual big yellow school bus where the driver will explain how to get on the bus, how to act while travelling and how to properly exit the bus. Then you'll be taken on a short ride to experience just what it's like to ride on the bus - just like the big kids!

We hope you'll be able to join us at this year's Kindergarten First Rider Program to be held at the Notre Dame High School in Red Deer, on Tuesday, August 14, 2018. We will also have a First Rider Program to be held at the Olds High School in Olds (by the college), on Wednesday, August 15, 2018. There will be two sessions each day - one from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm, and another from 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm. No registration is needed.  Simply show up at the location. If you have any questions, please contact our office at 403-227-7072

Do you know the traffic rules when it comes to school buses?  Click here for a video.

Did You Know:

Chinook's Edge runs 121 full time bus routes including 5 special needs routes.

Common Questions:

Why should my child be dressed appropriately for the weather?

In the event a bus breaks down or gets stuck, it is important that students are dressed for the weather conditions. If a bus breakdown occurs it may be some time before another bus comes or alternate arrangements can be made to transport students.

What should students do if the bus does not pick them up?

Parents should ensure that their children have a plan in the event that the bus does not arrive to pick them up. Children must be aware of how long to wait at their stop before returning home or going to their alternate location.

Having a plan in place is very important for safety when parents have to leave for work prior to the arrival of the school bus.
