First Rider Program
The First Rider Program is a School Bus Safety program introducing young children and their parents to school buses and school bus safety. It’s intended to be a fun learning experience. The program is created in partnership with Prairie Bus Lines, Red Deer Public School Division, Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools, and Chinook's Edge School Division. First Rider will help to familiarize you and your child with our buses and provide hands-on safety information. The program is focused on students entering Kindergarten and Grade 1 who will use yellow bus services in the fall. However any student who is new to taking the school bus, or would like a refresher, is welcome to attend. The First Rider Program will run in Red Deer on August 16th at the Westerner Grounds parking lot from 1 till 3PM and from 6:30 till 8PM. It will run in Olds on August 17th at the Olds High School in the student parking lot at the same times. Please come out and join us! Click here for more information.

Chinook's Edge runs 125 full time bus routes including 6 special needs routes.
Why should my child be dressed appropriately for the weather?
In the event a bus breaks down or gets stuck, it is important that students are dressed for the weather conditions. If a bus breakdown occurs it may be some time before another bus comes or alternate arrangements can be made to transport students.
What should students do if the bus does not pick them up?
Parents should ensure that their children have a plan in the event that the bus does not arrive to pick them up. Children must be aware of how long to wait at their stop before returning home or going to their alternate location.
Having a plan in place is very important for safety when parents have to leave for work prior to the arrival of the school bus.
